"Good-Bye, Hubie"
I read this comic book story--once!--way back in the early 1970's, and it always stuck with me. The pathos and the trick ending made an impression on me (I must have been 8 or 9). Finally found it at "Diversions of the Groovy Kind," a blogspot devoted to comics of the era and well worth a visit.
