On Being A Wizard

"[Rincewind] objected to the fact that you had to be good at magic to be a wizard. He knew he was a wizard, deep in his head. Being good at magic didn't have anything to do with it. That was just an extra, it didn't actually define somebody."

***

" 'I don't think you understand. A wizard isn't what you do, it's what you are. If I wasn't a wizard, I wouldn't be anything.' "

--from Sourcery (1989), by Terry Pratchett.

  1. This reminds me...I watched the first part of "The Color of Magic" the other day, and I thought the guy they had cast as Rincewind looked too old. He looked like about late 60s or so. I had always pictured him younger than that, sort of a grizzled mid-40s type.

  2. I agree. I always thought Nigel Planer would have been a good Rincewind in the day; instead he has a small role in both "The Color of Magic" and "Hogfather". Looking forward to the release of "Going Postal" movie in the US!
