I was never required to memorize any poems in school. However, I do remember that the first poem I did memorize was in our 4th grade reading book, and it was "Halloween" by Harry Behn.
Or it might have been this limerick:
There was an old man from Blackheath, Who sat on his pair of false teeth. Said he, with a start, "Oh my! Bless my heart! I've bitten myself underneath!"
