Five Haiku for the First Five Days

I.

A strange circumstance,
That such important matters
Are forever dark!

II.

Starting a journey
On a steed that never strides
Yet always moves on.

III.

The poor trusting soul
Lets serpents in the child’s room
To keep rats away.

IV.

Two grandfathers gone!
What unknown ingredients
They might have supplied.

V.

Crude bright foolish things,
The first tiny crumbs that lead
To beauty’s full feast.

VI.

Does this loneliness
Indicate a special fate
Or only sadness?

Haiku

My Books

Soon these heaps of leaves
gathered with such careful toil
must scatter again.

Haiku on the Cicada's Song

Though it will die soon

The voice of the cicada

Shows no sign of this.
